Underwear Bomber: Why did he do it?

ARE THE TERRORISTS WINNING?

Why would a bright young 23-year old man willingly give up his life to murder innocent people? I know the reason. He is a tool for the cowards who wanted to use him, a pawn for those who want to destabilize democracy and free countries around the world. It takes no courage to sit back and direct others to their doom. But it does take a plan.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was raised in Nigeria in a family where he had everything he needed; his father is a prominent banker there. He was well educated, having gone to school in London, quietly practicing his Muslim faith. He could have been anywhere, in Europe, South America, Africa, or even the United States – because the reach of these terrorists extends worldwide. They have agents and recruiters everywhere, and their one goal is the destruction of the free society we have built.

I have seen it myself for over fifty years – Fidel Castro uses the same tactics. Cuba has terrorist training camps inside its borders and all over the world for these young, impressionable minds. First it starts with a simple appeal to their young ideology; from another student on campus, a mentor, a friend – or even a web site. They don’t seem radical at first. And they offer so much. Castro offers free education in Cuba for young minds he can mold and send back out into their home countries.

Young men like Umar are taken in, and then indoctrinated to the “evils” of capitalism and American society. They are told that our freedom and prosperity is built from the blood of the poor, that they should feel guilty and wretched for their place, for what they have. In the end, the young convert feels so guilty for their happy and prosperous past that they will die to repent for it. This is what happened to Umar.

These terrorists, as I said, have recruiters all over the world. Some of the young converts come out and become recruiters themselves, or take government positions in their home country. And some end up like Umar. There will always be young, impressionable minds to brainwash. The goal of terrorism is not only to create terror, but to create more terrorists. The more freedoms are taken away by our own government to respond to these threats, the more dissatisfied people are with their own country.

To fully destroy a snake, one must cut off the head. The leaders of these camps, whether run by anti-capitalists like Castro, or radical Muslims, are the ones that we must target. If we do not find them and root them out, the terrorists will win.
