Huber Matos, Revolutionary, Betrayed by Castro.

During the revolution, Huber Matos joined with Castro’s forces to help overthrow the dictator, Batista. He rose to the highest ranks, and shortly after the revolution was imprisoned for suggesting that Castro hold elections and implement other democratic measures. Below is a section of an interview conducted by Dr. D’Marmol with Matos, who passed away this year.

The Los Angeles Times wrote a piece on Matos upon his death, Huber Matos Benitez Dies, which gives many details of his life and struggle, including:

“11 months without sunlight, 13 months without clothing, seven years without a visitor and 18 months without treatment for an arm broken in a beating by prison guards.”

Fidel Castro attempted to set up Matos for the killing of Camilo Cienfuegos, but Huber was smart enough to see it coming. The video contains a longer piece of the interview with Matos, including more of the story about what happened with him and Camilo.
