The Cuban Lightning: The Zipper is the true story of a spy asked by the intelligence services to secretly print U.S. currency to finance covert operations all over the world.

A young man grew up in Cuba, escaped the Castro regime to the United States, became a spy and a freedom fighter, worked with intelligence services all around the world, and finally became part of the largest covert money printing operation in history. This operation, codenamed “The Zipper”, was created to finance counter terrorism and covert operations all over the world. The young man, now grown, is Dr. Julio Antonio del Marmol, and it was his task to supervise the team that created millions and millions of dollars of U.S. currency for these operations.

One fateful day, a trusted friend set Dr. del Marmol up, betraying him to the Secret Service as a counterfeiter. Even though he had the undocumented sanction of the government intelligence services, he was disavowed and abandoned by them. Left facing a seventy year sentence, Julio refuses to betray any of his team members and takes the multiple felony charges on his own. Sitting in jail, cut off from his contacts, he hatches a plan to escape, while the Secret Service does everything in its power to convict him and send him away for the rest of his days.

The Spy Master Spy team has just signed a deal to create a documentary about Castro-era Cuba, including the exploits of J. Anthony D’Marmol. Julio, SPY and FREEDOM FIGHTER, finds himself kidnapped, drugged, and placed in a coffin on his way back to Cuba facing interrogation, torture, and execution. He was taken while dropping off ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR PRINTING PLATES to freedom fighters in Venezuela, and now has lost both the plates and his freedom.

He remembers back to a year earlier when this mission began, relaxing on a beach with the mother of his child, Yaneba. As he goes for a swim with friends, SHARKS ATTACK mercilessly and he barely escapes when a shark bites his foot. His friends help him kill a vicious shark, and Captain Marrero discovers that someone treated Julio’s scuba suit with a chemical that attracts and enrages sharks. This means that there is a TRAITOR in their midst.

His beautiful friend Amelia arrives to warn him about the traitor and she identifies him as Rodolfo, the nephew of a freedom fighter friend. Amelia eliminates Rodolfo as Julio and his team escape.

Flashing back to 1947, the year of Julio’s birth, we see a different Cuba. More prosperous, more free. A housekeeper performs bizarre blood protection rituals on the newborn Julio and returns him to his mother. When Julio is 12, Batista is overthrown and FIDEL CASTRO rises to power. Young Julio, inspired by his father’s loyalty to Castro, creates a youth movement called the Young Commanders, commissioned by Fidel himself. Spending time with Fidel and CHE GUEVARA, young Julio learns that the face they wear in public hides a brutal and bloody reality underneath. His uncle gives him an opportunity to help those fighting for freedom, and Julio takes it, beginning his career as a spy.

Young Julio is with Che Guevara as the attack on the Bay of Pigs happens, and sees Che brutally murder a wounded soldier who is unable to resist, calling him a dog and a worm. Che rushes to protect the secret of the Russian missile base close by, while Julio gathers intel about it, which he passes along to his Uncle.

The information on the missiles is given to the U.S. and its allies, and Russia makes a deal to have the weapons removed. The deal is a sham, and Russian ships arrive and haul away tons of fake missile parts while Fidel and his cronies secretly relocate the real ones. During a meeting of dignitaries, Julio personally meets the man set up to take the fall for the assassination of JFK, learning intimate details of the plan.

Back in the present, Julio, his coffin loaded aboard a cargo ship, is freed by a freak HURRICANE which flings the coffin across the hold, smashing it open. When his kidnapper, Victor, comes to check on him, he finds Julio ready. Julio injects Victor with the drug meant for him, gathers some scuba gear from the ship, and leaps overboard.

This leads to a MANHUNT on the island of Nassau by corrupt police forces paid off by Victor. Julio takes refuge in an Episcopalian community, which is attacked by disguised policemen. With the help of an old friend, Julio escapes to the airport, where his contact O’Brien is waiting for him, giving him back the plates that his team recovered, while Interpol is on the way to arrest his kidnappers and see justice done.

Pinar del Rio Cuba, 1959 – Julio, A 12 year-old boy, is selected by the revolutionary leaders at the beginning of the revolution as commander-in-chief of the Young Commanders, a youth movement to grow the new rebel army.  Fidel Castro was so impressed by this boy’s eloquence and passion that he delegated to him this important assignment of training these new recruits. The boy’s father, Leonardo Marmol, was one of the main allies of Castro’s revolution and also a very well-respected great Grand Master of the Masons. He wished to share his prosperity with those downtrodden by the brutal Batista regime. These noble ideas were passed on to his son Julio, who dreamed of protecting the poor and confronting the oppressors.

Two years later, after being involved with top leaders Fidel and Raul Castro and Che Guevara, Julio starts to awaken to the reality that the people are not getting what they were promised from this new regime. Behind closed doors the leaders speak completely different words than they do to the people, and they have taken all the country’s wealth for themselves.

The rest of the population is left starving and in deplorable living conditions so bad that even toilet paper is considered a luxury item. The 14 year-old Julio is saddened and disappointed by his new leaders. The steady and brutal persecution of any of those who do not agree with Castro’s Marxist declarations convinces Julio to fight the oppressors from the inside; he joins the resistance and helps the global international intelligence community.

Over the next ten years Julio Antonio Marmol works directly under the leader of the Cuban government in the Prime Minister’s office. Little did they know he was passing along sensitive valuable information about their communist ambitions along to his new allies. Castro’s plans are grand: to spread communism all over the world on three continents, Asia, Africa, and Hispano America. Soon Castro becomes aware that there must be a spy, but to his great frustration he cannot find him. His own G-2 secret service is powerless to catch this operative they call “The Lightning.”

In 1971, Julio’s identity is compromised and the G-2 closes in with a deadly trap. He barely escapes this first attempt on his life and somehow manages to swim ten miles through shark infested waters to the U.S. Military base in Guantanamo. This would be the first of fifty six attempts on his life.

After his dramatic escape, he begins working in the U.S. and around the world to foil Castro’s plans while the G-2 and other communist sympathizers spend millions to try to end his life. On September 6, 2007, the most recent attempt occurs, but the Cuban Lightning escapes once again.

This true story has never been told before. The Lightning strikes again and again, bringing nightmares to Castro as he dodges over fifty assassination attempts while he fights against terrorism, communism, and oppression around the world.

Years ago, when Pope John Paul II was still in office, D’Marmol’s book, Cuba Russian Roulette of America came out in Spanish and was published all over the world. This book gave a detailed account of the spy’s life, starting in Cuba as a young man believing in Castro and his new regime. It follows him through his disillusion with the new Communists as they take from the rich and give to… themselves! This book reached Europe and South America and even the Vatican. Not long after, the Master Spy received a gift: a cross from the Pope himself in recognition and congratulations for the book being published.

For the first time ever, court documents relating to the arrest of master spy, Julio Antonio Marmol (a.k.a. del Marmol or D’Marmol) have been unsealed. These testify to his incredible story of printing millions in secret money to finance special operations.

Arrested by the Secret Service for counterfeiting, D’Marmol was brought up on enough counts to imprison him for 40 years. Now released, these documents were sealed due to the unusual circumstances of the case, since D’Marmol was actually working secretly with the government that arrested him!

At the time, to the media and the Secret Service, this appeared to be the largest counterfeit bust in history. Due to the utmost secrecy of his mission and loyalty to his team and country, D’Marmol did not reveal any of the secret plan during the indictment. Instead, he remained silent and was sentenced to only one year in a federal camp instead of forty.

Yet only a few months later, D’Marmol was out, a free man. How did this happen? His friends in high places intervened, but behind the scenes through secret maneuvers, keeping it out of the public eye.
